Facelift and Its Alternatives

Do you want to look younger and have tighter facial skin, but you don't want to go through the complex and sometimes painful effects of a facelift? Because of amazing medical technological breakthroughs, there are several viable options to the traditional face lift today. These include the liquid facelift, the mid facelift, and the MACS-lift.
A liquid facelift is a great alternative because it does not involve surgery. A surgeon will simply inject your facial tissues with one or more injectable fillers. These are designed to replace depleted tissues to create more pleasing effects around the cheeks, temples, nose, and mouth. The fillers plump up the tissue under the skin, smoothing out the skin and reducing wrinkles for up to three years. A liquid face lift can be performed in under an hour with the use of topical anesthesia and the recovery time is just a day or two, with normal activity possible the same day. Results may not be immediate and several treatment sessions over a period of months will be necessary for the best results. The possible risks and side effects of a liquid face lift include redness, minimal pain, swelling, and bruising around the treated skin. Most of these will subside within the first few days and can be treated with ice and cold compresses. As with all face lifts, ideal candidates will be healthy, non-smokers with good skin elasticity.
Another good substitute for the traditional facelift is the mid facelift. It focuses on the area between the bottom of the eyes and the bottom of the mouth. This procedure still involves incisions and stitches, but it can provide a more youthful look by removing jowls, eliminating creases between the nose and mouth, and raising the corners of the lips, all for several thousand dollars less than a full face lift. Essentially, with a mid facelift the surgeon cuts deeper into the facial muscles for reposition of fat deposits and in some cases attach muscle to bone to provide a smoother younger appearance. The associated pain is said to be similar to a traditional face lift with swelling, bruising, and sensitivity but this should only last about a week. Possible risks of this surgery include nerve damage, some temporary hair loss and numbness. But if you are on a budget and still want an enhancement that will last up to ten years, a mid facelift may be right for you.
You may also want to consider a MACS-lift, or minimal access cranial suspension-lift. With the MACS-lift, surgeons make a much smaller incision than with a traditional face lift. The incision is made in the crease in front of the ear and the skin is lifted to allow the underlying tissues to be permanently sutured up higher. A MACS-lift focuses on the lower two-thirds of the face much like the mid facelift. This process is much less invasive than the traditional lift which means there will be less blood and less bruising. It makes it a safer procedure for smokers. The surgery is performed under local anesthesia and takes about two hours. Patients enjoy the benefits of a speedy recovery period of less than a week and plenty of savings as a MACS-lift is only a third of the cost of a traditional lift.
When it comes to gaining a more youthful face and neckline, there are lots of excellent alternatives to the traditional facelift. These will provide you with the same great effects at a fraction of the cost with shorter recovery periods.
