Incentive gifts are gifts given to employees as the company's sign of appreciation for commendable performance in the workplace. Incentive gifts are given to either an individual or to a team or department that accomplishes minor and major department or company business goal(s). They can also be given to everybody as a sign of the celebratory or congratulatory attitude of the company, usually after a successful undertaking (i.e. winning of new and bid accounts, surpassing quotas, extension of contacts, birthdays of top management executives, etc).
You can also see incentive gifts when special holidays arrive, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas and company anniversaries. Usually, loot bags or gift certificates are given.
The funding for incentive gifts is included in the company costs and its projection for a particular years. The costs of these items is not deducted from the salary of the employees. When a company is partnered with another company, they also use this to their advantage when giving incentive gifts. This is because corporate clients and partner companies often shoulder the funding for the gifts, as a gesture of friendliness and patronage. It's also a good way of advertising themselves.
There are also some businesses that specialize in providing and creating incentive gifts. They are very helpful for companies who require a large selection of gifts to choose from. If they want their company's logo and name on the gift, these business would also take care of it.
What you should remember when it comes to incentive gifts is it should suit the personality and need of both the company and the receiver. Factors such as personality, gender and specific preferences should always be considered. For example, you wouldn't give an employee an all-you-can-eat pass to a meat lover's restaurant if you know he or she is a vegan, right? Or a gift certificate to a beauty shop would be great for a woman, but what if the receiver is a male account executive? The incentive gift becomes insulting instead of being celebratory.
