Buying cloth diapers is an investment, and one that is well worth it in the end. Not only will you save upwards of $1,500 dollars or more over the course of your diapering career, but you are also doing a giant favor to the overstuffed landfills. And if that wasn't enough to get you to try them, pocket diapers like GAD diapers are so user friendly; you won't miss your disposable diapers one bit. They come in a wide assortment of fun fashion-forward colors and operate just like the throwaway diapers.

So, the question then remains, how many diapers do you need to buy for your baby?

Every kid is different, but generally speaking you are going to need enough diapers to get you through about two days before washing. Anything less than that, and you won't want to keep up with the laundry. Anything more than that, and you won't want to smell your diaper pail come laundry day. So 2 days is a good compromise.
Size Small: The first few months of your babies life, you are going to want to change them at least every 2 hours around the clock.

Our Recommendation : 18 diapers. This will give you about 2 days between washing, which is ideal. You will also need inserts for each one as well.

Budget Saver: 12 diapers. This is the minimum amount of diapers that you will want to have for a newborn. This will allow you to wash once a day.

Size Medium: Once your baby gets a little bit older, you can change them less often. They should be sleeping through the night now, so you will need to stock up on extra inserts for nighttime wetting.

Our Recommendation: 14 Diapers. This will give you 2 days between wash cycles. You will need a few more inserts than diapers, to handle double stuffing at night.

Budget Saver: 10 Diapers. This is the minimum amount of diapers that you will want to get for a child in a medium size diaper.

Size Large: At this point, your child is toddling around and will go less often. Which means less diapers to change.

Our Recommendation: 12 Diapers. This will get you through 2 days between wash cycles. Many parents like to choose 16 diapers at this stage, to go even longer between washings.

Budget Saver: 10 Diapers. This is the minimum amount that you will want to get for a child in a large diaper.

Good luck with your cloth diapering adventure!
