Among all the wines you can buy, one of the most unheard of is ice wine. It is a very rare form of wine, because it is produced under certain types of weather conditions. It is produced mainly in the Pacific Northwest region, where the weather conditions are right.
It is usually produced in very small quantities. With the wine requiring only the finest of quality and a lack of availability, the product is extremely rare indeed. The main ingredients needed to produce ice wine are fully ripened grapes and a temperature of around 5 degrees C. After collecting the grapes, they are gently pressed, in order to collect the running juice only.
Pressing the grapes while frozen leaves most of their water content in the press as ice pellets, with only the sweetest nectar-like juice gushing into the fermentation tank. The result is a sappy, honey-rich, fragrant wine that has to be tasted to be believed.
The other category of more affordable ice wine is made by simply freezing the grapes in the freezer, rather than waiting for mother nature to do her thing naturally in the vineyard. These can be tasty too, though not quite the same as the naturally-frozen ones.
If you have been looking to try ice wine, finding one may be very difficult. Most Alcohol stores don't sell this rare wine. Finding the original ice wine online is very hard to do as well, unless you catch it at the right time.
The best chance to experience ice wine is to find the right wine maker in the Pacific Northwest region. Most bottles of original ice wine are pre-ordered but you may be able to find a maker with some bottles on hand. Be ready to spend a considerable amount though. Yes, it can cost a lot and be extremely hard to find -the taste of ice wine makes it well worth the effort.
