Tips To Taking Your Diet On Vacation

With summer almost upon us, it's time to breakout the swimsuits and head to the beach! You've already lost weight so you look great in that swimsuit, but you're already wondering how you are going to stick to your diet on vacation. Many people feel that going on vacation is a good excuse to take a vacation from their diet. However, those people get back from vacation and are dismayed to find that the scale is saying that they gained some weight. There are plenty of easy ways to take your diet on vacation with you - it just takes some thinking and some extra planning!

Pack Healthy

Packing an apple or banana or some granola bars in your bag before you leave is great for preventing that high-calorie load up come lunchtime. This is perfect for any day, whether you are sightseeing all day or going to the beach. Packing healthy will prevent you from hitting up a vending machine, a fast food drive-thru, or a hot dog stand when those hunger pangs kick in.

Packing healthy can also include packing your exercise clothes before you leave. This way, you have no excuse for missing your workout - everything you need is already with you.

The drive can be the worst diet hazard - when on the road, most people opt for a drive-thru over a sit down restaurant because of time constraints. To save even more time, pack a cooler with ice, yogurt, cheese sticks, and other healthy snacks. When you stop to get gas, stock up on ice and these healthy snacks will last you to your destination.

Dining Out Hints

Vacations bring lots and lots of dining out - everyone wants to eat somewhere they cant back home. Treat dining out on vacation like you do at home. Order an appetizer as a meal instead of an entree, or order the entree and take half home in a doggie bag. You can still enjoy local eats without sacrificing your waistline!

Get Moving!

Vacations are popular times for sightseeing - so sightsee by bike or walk instead of a bus tour! Take a long stroll on the beach after dinner and watch the sunset - not only is this relaxing, but it will burn off some extra calories, too!

Make Allowances

You are on vacation, so allot yourself certain indulgences as a reward for sticking to your diet. Make a plan of eating two meals during your stay that don't stick to your diet. Or, if you want to indulge more often, make a goal of going for a run every morning so you can eat an extra piece of bread with dinner that evening. Making allowances will make you feel like you are on vacation, but it won't make you feel like you haven't been sticking to your diet. A little planning before vacation will go a long way.

Dieting while on vacation is not a problem. Plan everything before you go, so you aren't stuck in a position where you have to choose between fast food and a hot dog stand. Enlist the help of your fellow vacationers and tell them that you plan on sticking to your diet. You will get the support you need and will hopefully be able to avoid certain diet pitfalls because those around you know you're eating healthy. There is no reason you can't return from vacation with a better body than when you left!
