Frequently, the word "craft" makes people think about ladies knitting or painting pots. It's a natural association since girls tend to be more interested on craft work than boys. Another reason for a boy to get stared on woodworking is the number of possibilities it has. He can start with the simples whittling and end up making musical instruments, sculptures, furniture or even boats! Skilled woodcrafters will probably pick more challenging task which may include the use of saws, electric tools and sand. More complex projects will require good planning. For a simple bird feeder, you can take the pieces of wood forgotten on your garage and do it. Another craft identified as masculine, is blacksmithing. As woodworking, it's a smelly and sweaty craft that girls usually avoid. Also, we will hardly find a girl with the physical strength necessary for this kind of art. Actually, as much as energy, blacksmithing requires lots of skill. Deal with red-hot iron is not easy and demand courage and powerful muscles.
Boys are inclined to choose physically challenging craft activities, but it's not a rule. They can also pick lighter creative projects as a hobby or as a way to have some relaxation. Whatever they decide to do, the main point is: crafting is a boy's thing, too.
