Mad About Hats!

It all started from a scene in a fairy tale. In wonderland, Alice had the opportune fate of celebrating her un-birthday with the wacky Mad Hatter. And that is how party hats were born.

Party hats have become a staple in parties worldwide. Not everyone can wear a crown, but almost anyone can wear a hat. Party hats with their vivid colors and designs add to the vivacity and liveliness of the celebration. Not to mention, they give your personal costume that added oomph! And sometimes all you need is just that one hat to make you feel festive and up-to-party even if you are dressed with jeans and a tank top.

Party hats have evolved and have been devoured by innovation which is why there is a heap of styles, designs and hat creations to choose from. Let us look into some of the styles in this collection and perhaps get a few tips on how to make one ourselves.

Cone hats

Cone shaped hats are the simplest and possibly the easiest hats to make. You can make these at the last minute if you should forget to order some from the party store. All you need to do is get a 12"x18" paper then draw a triangle on it. Glue together the side ends and viola, you have yourself a party hat! Before making the cone, you can color and design the triangle first with crayons or spray paint. For added texture, you can glue in sequins, glitters, ribbons, cute fancy buttons or yarn. If you are really short on time, you have the option of using colored paper with patterns on them so you can just go ahead - cut, glue and flip on that party hat!

Pirate hats

With the popularity of Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean and even Captain Hook from Peter Pan, it would be no surprise if your little tot asks for a pirate party and as such it would not be complete without a pirate hat! Pirate hats are relatively easy to do. Get a rectangular piece of paper, fold then bring the ends together. Fold up the edges and thread in a string. Decorate with a feather and plop the hat on your kid's head. Add an eye patch for added effect and your pirate is ready to set sail. All aboard mates!

Crowns

As much as little boys like to play pirates, nothing perks up little girls than playing dress up and being princesses. So it is best that you know how to make beautiful charming crowns for our fair ladies. First thing to do is make a headband made up of cardboard paper. Using the same length cut a strip of foil wrap or construction paper. This should be wider than the headband at around two inches. Attach the cut construction paper to the headband making sure that the bottom edges are aligned. Make zigzags or tiara patterns on the top edge. Spruce up the construction paper with glitters, stickers, fancy stones and you have got yourself an elegant crown fit for a princess.
