Choosing the right Canon Digital Camera.

Although there maybe some overlapping in features or functions, broadly speaking, there are six categories of Canon Digital cameras which a buyer can choose from. They are (1) Canon Super compact (2) Canon Compact (3) Canon Full Featured camera (4) The 5 megapixels Ultra Zoom Camera (5) The Eight Megapixels Ultra Zoom camera (6) and the Digital Single Lens Reflex (SLR).
The correct camera to buy will ultimately depends on your particulars needs. If you are a professional Photographer, then the Digital SLR or ultra zoom camera will be a more suitable choice for you as these types of camera allows you to install telescopic lenses and allows you to shoot clear and sharp images from a distance. The only setback is that these types of camera are quite bulky as compared to the compact cameras which are the pocketable type. If you are just looking for something just to point and shoot, then the super compact or the compacts will be good choices as they offers the best values in terms of features which are geared towards the occasional normal use.
Super Compact Cameras like the Canon SD 10 are designed with portability in mind. They are very small in size and because of this have limited features only. They do not have manual settings and are fully auto. The camera will choose to set the aperture priority or exposure level by itself. Focal length is fixed and the cameras have only two or three times zooming ability. Next in line, slightly larger than the super compact is the compact range of cameras. These may have limited manual settings as some of the features of the cameras. Their zooming ability is slightly higher than the super compact too like 3 to 4 times zooms.
The next in line to choose from are the Canon full featured cameras. They are relatively more expensive as compared to the sub compact and compact range. They have higher pixel count as well as higher optical zoom rating. Beside from being fully automatic, these cameras also allows for manual settings to override some of the predefined settings. Thus if you are an amateur, this range of camera will be more ideally suited for you to use.
The Ultra Zoom Camera in the Five Megapixels range has optical zoom ability of 5 to 10 times. In addition, many have electronic viewfinder instead of using optical viewfinder. Beside from having a big range of auto exposure settings, they also allow the camera to be manually set. The ultra zoom Canon EOS 1D Mark II with 8 megapixels is more costly due to the fact that it has bigger digital sensor element. This allows the camera to take pictures with less noise interference. Apart from this, the 8 megapixels and 5 megapixels cameras are comparatively the same in features. This category of camera also has a range of optional accessories and with the accessories, you will have the ability to customize and adapt the camera to your preference. For example the horse shoe feature let you install an external flash to suit you added photographic needs.
At the end of the scale, is the Digital SLR camera. The Canon EOS 10D although looks like a traditional film based camera, is a high tech piece of digital photographic equipment. Besides from having the largest digital sensors, the digital SLR is also extremely expensive. Their body makeup allows you to swap lenses around, even those meant for a 35mm film camera.
