What Couldn't You Do Without?

Post-its - what would I do without post-its? The older I get, the more I need them. Although they come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors, the basic, yellow square covers everything for me - literally.

Post-its are on the refrigerator, of course; but they can also be found on my computer, the TV, my bathroom mirror, my husband's calendar and the front door - inside and outside. Frankly, there are enough post-its posted in my house to qualify my decor as post modern.

The post-its on my computer are to remind me of various, computer-related projects that need doing. I never thought I'd say this, but I don't know what I'd do without my computer. From spell checking to researching ideas, from making graphs to making contact with family and friends - my computer is more versatile and just as cutting edge as a Swiss Army knife. Of course, even when I dropped my pencil and paper, they never crashed.

My mechanical pencils are something else I wouldn't want to do without. I've grown through plastic, pencil sharpeners for school, crank sharpeners at school and electric sharpeners that take up desk space and use up another electric outlet. When I can use a thirty-nine cent, mechanical pencil, I don't get the point of pencil sharpeners.

What I do get are double-sided tape and wired ribbon for gift wrapping. My gifts have gone from mundane looking to magnificent - at least the hand-delivered ones have. When gifts have to be mailed, I can only hope the receiver resurrects the bow. After all, it's the thought that counts; and I thought to use wired ribbon.

I use a manual can opener because in a power outage I'd have to do without an electric one. From tomato sauce to hearts of palm, a can opener opens all sorts of possibilities for dinner.

A can opener also opens Zachary's dinner and what would I do without my dog. He's unconditional love. He's my companion and my confidante. I couldn't do without him anymore than he can do without fleas.

And what would I do without my flealess source of love. I'd have to do taxes, change ceiling light bulbs, stop the faucet from dripping and the toilet from running. I'd have to get rid of spiders. I'd have to ask directions how to do all those things and more, but I'm the one who asks directions anyway.
