Everybody Has a Dream, What's Yours?

Dreams and visions are very powerful and they are an important part of the lives of humans. They enable us to transcend where we are and go beyond what we have achieved so far. Dreaming means becoming discontented with our present situation and yearning for something better. If you are economically poor and can barely afford the basic necessities of life, then you would dream of a time when you can easily buy the things you need and want.
You might be a young person who has yet to prove himself in the world and dream of becoming successful. Because of such a dream, your days become bearable, and you firmly believe that one day, things will become better. There is an aphorism taken from the Bible that says "without vision, the people perish". If people cease to dream and have visions for themselves, they perish and get lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The contrary is also true. If a person finds his true purpose in life, he becomes powerful, and he finds a more meaningful life. He also learns to live fully because dreams are like stars guiding navigators in finding their way through the waves and depths of the seas. A person without a dream is like a ship adrift in the sea without any kind of idea of where it is going. It just goes through the motions and lets itself be driven by the currents and winds of chance. Such life is boring and unnecessarily burdensome.
Young children tend to dream more than adults do. This is because they still do not have a fixed idea of what is possible and not. They may be raw but they are willing to dream. As they grow older, however, they easily become discouraged and disillusioned because of mistakes, of failures, and wrong roads taken. Or perhaps, some of these children did not wake up to follow their dreams.
Dreams are great. But following them is another thing altogether. People may have lofty dreams and grand ambitions but if they do not take heart and take the first step in the journey that leads to the next one thousand steps, they remain where they are and their dreams fester.
Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream and he worked hard for that dream. Our dreams may not be as grand as King's was. But our dreams matter and we should follow them if we were to find the purpose for our life.
