"We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives, not looking for flaws, but for potential." -Ellen Goodman

Walk one mile a day in 2008 and you will have walk 365 miles by the end of the year. Think of all the calories burned.

Give a $1 a day in charity you will have given $365 to charity by year's end. That's school books for about 25 kids in Africa or Ecuador. The choices are unlimited.

Find a person a day to shakes hands with, give a hug to, or speak a word of encouragement to and you will have brightened the world at least 365 times. A nice set of 'L' words: life, light, laughter, love.

Eat lunch with a new person once a week; you will have about 50 new or deeper relationships by year's end.

Add one new raw or organic food to your diet per month and you will have a whole new range of healthy choices in 2008.

This small list of commitments or decisions we could make shows us the potential that we all have to make change happen. Very small key decisions can lead to huge doors swinging open.

Last year, my office was located in a basement. The only window was the block glass kind that you could not see through clearly.

I made a commitment to spend more time in nature, a small commitment that ensured I would see something beautiful at least once a week.

In December on one of my committed outings, I found a run down 1926 Cape Cod that needed a lot of repair, actually needed gutting. It was on a beautiful cove looking out into a wide river. I made on offer, I won the contract, and I got the financing.

I remodeled the house which became my home in June of 2007. Now, I am in nature watching ducks, geese, hawks and sea gulls every day!

It all begins in the mind. While philosophers debate mundane questions like, how many angels can fit on the head of a pin, I actually know where the center of universe resides! It is in you.

You are the epitome of all that is good and all that is possible. Just make the decision to embrace small commitments, one step at a time.

I would ask you to consider taking on the mantle of wisdom and treat yourself like the royal majesty you are and be kind to yourself in 2008. Follow your passions and choose health as the greatest of all wealth.
