4 Tips on How to Achieve Goals

Most people who have difficulty with goal setting fail as they have not clearly defined them. Nor have they ever really considered them as believable or achievable.

Achievers will tell you where they are going, how they plan to get there, and who they will be taking with them for the ride.

To put it simply there are 4 aspects you must clarify in setting effective goals.

-Define your goals
-Believe in your goals
-Develop a plan
-Surround yourself with professionals.

Most goal setting books and tutorials concentrate far too much on the first two points. No single point is more important than the other.

They also tell you to be ambitious. Set goals that are "BIG". Their reasoning is that if you set mediocre goals, you will achieve mediocre results.

This may be true however on the other hand if you have not had success in setting goals, you need to build your confidence in the process, and your ability to succeed.

So lets set a smaller goal to start with, you can always make it a much bigger goal once you have had success with the first one.

Time to take a closer look at each point and remember that all four points rely on each other for success...

1. Define Your Goals:

Your goal setting must be specific. Yes that means identifying dates and amounts. So if you are starting a new home based business, you may want to be earning $100,000-00 per annum. You must take that figure and add a relevant time frame. Lets say 2 years from now.

That is a great goal, but at this stage it might be a bit too big, and it may also be difficult to actually believe.

So lets refine the goal to, "I will be earning $1000-00 per month by the 31st January 2008". (note this article was written on 1st November 2007 so I have simply allowed for three months as a relevant time frame)

Also notice how I have used the phrase "I WILL be...". Avoid the use of any words that are not positive.

I have also set the goal as an achievable target. Once you have achieved this goal you could set a new goal to increase that figure by 25% per month. That will see you achieve your big goal easily.

Believe Your Goals:

Having set a clear goal, put it aside for now and go back to review it tomorrow. Make sure it is still "real". Do you REALLY want this goal? Have you set realistic time frames and amounts.

OK so you have re affirmed your commitment. Now lets make sure you follow through.

Write your goal down and have it copied and laminated a couple of times. Put a copy in your pocket every day. Post a copy on the fridge or the corner of your computer screen. These will serve as gentle reminders.

Now take 5 minutes in a nice quiet spot, close your eyes and see yourself achieving your goal. In this instance you might visualize yourself opening a bank statement reflecting the desired funds. Or you could see yourself buying that new laptop that will streamline your new home based business.

You should do this at least once a day, read your goal aloud to yourself and then visualize yourself having achieved the goal. I find the visualization a great relaxation technique just before going to sleep. What better way to rock off to sleep than by seeing yourself as a winner!

Set a Plan:

What's the plan?

So you are going to start making money online. You will need to have at least considered these few basic things;

-What niche will I get involved with. This will need to be something you have some knowledge in and best if you are passionate about it.
-What types of products will you provide
-What budget do I have
-You will need a domain name
-You will need a host for your web site
-Can you set up a web site or will you pay someone for this service.

Who Will Help You:

We talked about surrounding yourself with professionals, there are more gurus and self proclaimed professionals on the internet than you can poke a stick at. Tread carefully when viewing internet gurus. Stick to your budget, but most of all take some extra time to just get the understanding of your plan together before you start buying products.

NOTE: Every free product or piece of advice you come across will also have an offer for you to buy "the full story". Take your notes of where to come back to, but stay away from the paid products until you know what you are looking for.

The professional services you will however absolutely need are;

-Somewhere to buy a domain name from
-Somewhere to host your web site
-A method of setting up the various aspect of your web site
-An auto responder
-A method of generating high quality content

Thats it, you now have the four key components to Goal setting, now heres the fifth one that I did not mention;

Take action;

So off you go, it should not take more than 15 minutes
to set your first new mini goal, don't make it too big, but do make it meaningful. Then go back to it tomorrow, refine it a bit, commit to it and get going towards it.

Good Luck.
