Just what is self esteem, and how is it managed? Generally speaking, self esteem is typically considered the way in which a person sees, or values himself, but accepting and respecting this image also comes into play. Self esteem is very important since it determines how we interact with other persons. People with low, or no, self esteem typically do not have any self confidence, nor any faith in themselves, in any manner.

In order for people to evaluate their own knowledge of self esteem, they need to have a clear understanding of what it is so they can recognize their own level of self esteem. Some people may be encouraged to work on improving their self esteem simply buy becoming more knowledgeable on what it is.

Self esteem is what keeps us going and helps us to cope with the many challenges we are faced with in life on a daily basis. In reality, the self confidence and belief we have in ourselves forms the way we deal with such obstacles and any necessary decision making. It is one of our greatest assets when navigating our way through life.

When we have sufficient levels of self esteem, we are far more decisive and the confidence we exude gives us the power to deal with other people and often take on the experience of new things and any associated risks involved. It is the way in which we push ourselves forward in life. However, a high level of self esteem can sometimes be regarded by others as an air of arrogance when in fact it is really only your confidence shining through.

Self esteem can be a factor in how we treat other people, and also in how we feel about ourselves. It can be the key factor as to whether we are a success or a failure in life. Self esteem plays a crucial part in our lives because it is our weapon against life's difficulties and challenges.

What factors contribute to self esteem?

The support and assurance of our friends and family plays a huge part in the cultivation of our self esteem. When our friends and family members support us from our early years our confidence will be enhanced through to adulthood. Quite often adults with a low level of self esteem can benefit as they lend an ear or a shoulder to cry on to other family members, helping them with their problems and encouraging them to express their feelings

Children and adolescents may not know or understand what self esteem is but they can feel it just as adults do. It can be a struggle for adults who have low levels of self esteem to come to terms with it, even if they already understand it. Those with low self esteem should always be encouraged and led to help build their self esteem and become more self-confident in all that they do.
