The first cable systems used to be antennas placed in a certain manner with extra long cables connecting them to viewers TV sets. At regular levels, amplifiers had to be inserted to make the signal stronger as they tended to become weak after being transmitted through the length of the cable wires. Problems with these amplifiers caused issues for people to designed cable systems for years. Noise and distortion were caused by the amplifier.
If one of the amplifiers failed to work, the picture was lost. By the seventies, the amplifier problems were finally solved and programming was taking greater leaps. Millions of homes now have cable systems attached to get television directly into their living rooms. TV viewing has become a very taken for granted phenomenon, and no one really thinks about how what they are watching has been brought to them. In the past, television was never pre recorded, just live. The line of sight problem to do with radio signals has existed since the day TV has been used.
If the antenna you are using is not in the same line as the more powerful antenna being used to send signals, then the picture goes. Then came satellite TV and largely solved this problem, by making orbiting satellites transmit radio signals instead of terrestrial antenna. Today a lot more people prefer satellite TV over cable TV. However, getting back to how cable TV works, even when satellite TV was not there people had figured out ways to avoid the line of sight problems, though it never really went fully as far as cable TV is concerned. By putting up powerful antennas in high spots, people made sure that more viewers got the signals.
Cables were connected to viewers homes which would then bring cable TV into their TV sets. No doubt, we have taken TV for granted. This is an argument that may be made for all forms of technology. We have also taken the internet for granted. Having a high speed connection in todays world is no big deal and nothing to make a fuss about. As satellite TV slowly replaced cable TV, Internet TV is gradually taking satellite TVs place. We still watch as much TV as we used to before, but we are discovering more and more efficient ways to watch it. Now we can watch TV on regular TV sets without cable or satellite televisions, and we can watch TV on portable media players like our mobile phones.
All this has been made possible due to Internet TV, the amazing amount of content, the music, the movies, the live shows, the sports, the news. Internet TV has made all that possible for us. We are no longer slaves to what ever is on in our regular TVs. We can tune in to whatever we want to watch, any time, on Internet TV. Such is the amazing power of technology and this is how we make giant leaps every time. Internet TV is the next big thing in media, just like cable TV had been in peoples lives, those many decades ago.
