Time is a commodity, especially in business. Time's worth is its weight in gold, and when business deals are done long distance, it's worth it for the company bottom line to have business reps spending that time away from their homes. Extended stay facilities are there to provide the space for those in the business of long stays to reside within. They provide a bit more than a regular hotel stay, as I'll go over further in the article. In addition, Philadelphia is a common business destination to use as a case point. So further on it will also be used for example while correlating a little history behind the extended stay concept.
Extended Stay Domiciles Garnering Demand
Extended stay locations are different than simply going to your downtown motel and plopping down a weeks worth of rent. The concept these days are to provide a space, be it within a hotel setting or an apartment that has pretty much anything you can find in your home.
The need for extended stay places has grown considerably. The typical hotel stay is wearing thin for a good deal of those on the road. Two main points make them different from a hotel suite. One is that they are multi-functional. A good deal of them will have such things as cooking ranges, full-sized refrigerators and 24-hour laundry service. The other point is that they cost less when paid in large time chunks. This captures the corporate ideal when they need their rep looking sharp, well-rested and their accountant isn't shaking his head looking at expense reports.
Hotels typically are in the business of providing just an adequate bed and resting unit with the occasional wet bar and coffee maker, while the extended stay will have most of the amenities of home. That's why the hotel industry has jumped on the trend recently and modeled its own Extended Stay Hotels (ESH).
Philly Travel Example
The time between Philly and Trenton, for example, is a rather short distance. But in the commuting world and traffic these days time is a constraint. The extended stay concept is quite embraced on the East coast for this reason. Time delays and traffic problems are a usual disruption. A corporate trip to Trenton from Philly using an extended stay apartment would not be unusual. Many extended stay locations in the area would have adequate amenities where even a family could come and stay with the corporate rep if necessary. Looking up locations in Trenton, furnished apartments that serve extended stay seekers are plenty, which makes a livable stay for several to one room.
