It can be more obvious in some abusive relationships to realize that you are in one than it can be in others. In some relationships where physical abusive is involved, the signs are plainly visible on a person's body.

Relationships that are riddled with emotional abuse can be much more difficult to point out by others, but the devastation to the injured party is every bit as traumatic even if not outwardly visible..

A physically abusive relationship is one that should never be tolerated by anyone. Those who have never been involved in a physically abusive relationship can not begin to understand the fear that an abused person is subjected to. Abusers are manipulative and threatening to put it mildly. They are unpredictable and you are never sure what they might be capable of next.

A person that is physically abusive to their spouse or partner will not hesitate to threaten violence against others that the abused person loves. They hold threats over an abused persons head like a guillotine ready to descend down upon them at any moment.

Often an abused person will do whatever the abuser wants and take whatever punishment they mete out under the misguided belief that they are protecting others, in many cases their own children if they have any. This is sick, but for abused people it is a reality and a desperate way of life.

There are organizations out there that will help a person trapped in an abusive relationship to escape. Although women who need this kind of help statistically out number men, men will often feel trapped as well.

Beating you up is not the only way a person can threaten violence. Women have been known to kill their husbands or threaten to kill themselves and their children if a man tries to leave. Abuse is abuse no matter which sex is inflicting it.

In abusive relationships people are often paralyzed by their fear. Seeking help is almost as scary as staying with the abuser. The fear of being hunted down and having to pay the abuser's price for leaving is a monstrous thought for them. Help and intervention by others is sometimes their only way out besides in a body bag.

They have to find the courage to ask and seek that help or they are doomed to remain in a dangerous and unbearable life. If you know someone who is being abused, especially if it is a child, do the right thing and get help for them because they may not have the strength or the courage left to get it for themselves.
